The UT Twin48 is an exceptional reproduction inspired by two iconic tube microphones from the 1940s and 50s. These legendary models were used on countless recordings and continue to be benchmarks today. United Studio Technologies has taken on an ambitious challenge: combining these two iconic sonic signatures in a single microphone.

A true tube signature

To capture the full richness of the vintage sound, the UT Twin48 incorporates a glass EF86 pentode tube, a direct descendant of the original tubes. This choice guarantees a full, warm, and detailed sound reproduction, quite distinct from the more modern tones of bi-triode tubes.

Dual voicing: two characters, one microphone

The UT Twin48 doesn't just offer different polar patterns; it provides two distinct cardioid modes, each replicating the specific characteristics of the renowned 47 and 48 models.

47 cardioid mode (“true cardioid”): The rear diaphragm is decoupled, delivering a more open, powerful sound with improved sensitivity and greater detail in the high frequencies and background.
48 cardioid mode (“active cardioid”): The rear diaphragm is polarized at the same voltage as the back plate, producing a tighter, warmer, and more intimate sound with slightly reduced sensitivity.

This dual signature allows you to adapt to a wide range of situations: vocals, brass, strings, or room ambience, without having to change microphones.

Custom Capsule and Transformer

The UT Twin48 is equipped with components entirely developed according to historical specifications:

UT K48 Capsule
Dual-diaphragm capsule with a 6-micron NOS Japanese Mylar diaphragm, powder-coated with 24k gold. Optimized for 60V operation, it delivers a smooth, balanced sound faithful to the original models, without harshness or excessive sibilance.
UT-BV8 Transformer
Made in the USA to original Braunbuch specifications, with laminations identical to vintage models. It incorporates a high-nickel alloy and a copper Faraday shield to minimize RFI interference and ensure maximum sonic integrity.

High-End Power Supply

Because the quality of a tube microphone depends heavily on its power supply, United has designed a completely discrete solution:

Independent rails for filament, B+, and bias
Discrete regulation (Sparkos Labs for the filament, Zener for the high voltage)
Audiophile-grade components (PRP resistors, high-quality capacitors)
Robust, oversized linear transformer
Front-panel switchable EMI/RFI and RF filter
