ABOUT THE PRODUCT

The sound of major studios for your entire band

The Volt 4P Max is the most feature-rich interface in the Volt Max lineup.

Designed for sessions with multiple musicians, it features four Tone Shaping mic preamps that let you record up to four sources simultaneously, as well as extensive connectivity options suitable for drums, bands, synthesizers, and external gear.

Developed by the team behind the Apollo interfaces, it lets you shape your sound right from the take thanks to its Tone Shaping preamps and Max dynamics processor.

Four Tone Shaping preamps

Each of the Volt 4P Max’s four microphone preamps offers 60 dB of gain and three harmonic shaping modes:

Warmth: to add a warm character inspired by tube circuits

Focus: for a precise, present sound

Shine: to capture the brilliant character of a British Class A preamp

These modes let you quickly adjust the tonal character of each take directly during recording.

Built-in Max dynamics processor

The Volt 4P Max features a real-time Max compressor.

It offers six musical presets designed for different sources such as vocals, guitars, bass, and drums.

Among the available settings are presets such as “Rap Vocals” and “Jangly Acoustic.”

The processing is inspired by classic studio compressors such as the 1176 and the LA-2A.

By combining the three Tone Shaping modes with the six Max presets, the Volt 4P Max offers 18 possible sound combinations that are directly accessible during recording.

32-bit / 192 kHz Audio Conversion

The Volt 4P Max is equipped with professional converters capable of operating at up to 32-bit / 192 kHz.

This resolution allows for the precise preservation of details and nuances from the various recorded sources.

Record up to four sources simultaneously

With its four mic/line inputs, the Volt 4P Max allows you to record up to four sources at the same time.

It is particularly well-suited for:

multiple vocalists

a drum kit

a small band

multiple acoustic instruments

synthesizers and drum machines

stereo line sources

The four mic inputs feature +48 V phantom power that can be switched on or off independently for each channel, making it easy to use condenser microphones.

Two Hi-Z instrument inputs

Two Hi-Z instrument inputs on the front panel allow you to directly connect guitars, basses, or other high-impedance instruments.

They can be used in conjunction with the mic/line inputs to quickly set up multichannel recording configurations.

ADAT and S/PDIF Digital Expansion

The optical input can operate in ADAT or S/PDIF mode, allowing you to expand the interface’s connectivity.

In ADAT mode, it supports:

8 channels at 44.1 or 48 kHz

4 channels in S/MUX mode at 96 kHz

2 channels in S/MUX mode at 192 kHz

In S/PDIF mode, it supports 2 channels at all supported sample rates.

This expansion makes it possible, for example, to add an external multichannel preamp when more inputs are needed.

Built-in MIDI

The Volt 4P Max features a MIDI input and output via 3.5 mm TRS Type A mini-jacks.

This allows it to be easily integrated into a setup that includes:

keyboards

synthesizers

drum machines

MIDI controllers

hardware sequencers

Switching Between Two Pairs of Speakers

The Volt 4P Max allows you to connect two pairs of stereo speakers: a main pair and an alternate pair.

A dedicated switch lets you quickly switch between them to compare a mix on different monitoring systems without changing the wiring.
Smart Display color screen
The Smart Display clearly shows the interface’s inputs, levels, and settings.

It also displays the amount of gain reduction applied by Max processing, providing immediate visual feedback during recording.

Auto-Gain and Overload Protection

The Auto-Gain feature automatically adjusts recording levels in just a few seconds.

Clip protection, meanwhile, manages unexpected peaks and reduces the risk of digital clipping.

These features simplify sessions with multiple sources by minimizing the time spent on gain adjustments.

Built-in Talkback Microphone

A talkback microphone is built directly into the Volt 4P Max.

It allows for easy communication with musicians in another room or behind a studio glass partition, without requiring an additional dedicated microphone.

Two Headphone Outputs

The Volt 4P Max features two stereo headphone outputs that share the same monitor mix.

They facilitate listening and collaboration during sessions with multiple musicians or participants.

Built-in USB Hub

A USB hub port allows you to connect an additional device and provides up to 5 V DC / 0.5 A.

It can be used, for example, to connect or power certain compatible USB MIDI controllers.

Integration with UAD Console and LUNA

The Volt 4P Max offers full integration with UAD Console and LUNA, including session recall and low-latency headphone monitoring.

It is also compatible with the leading digital audio workstations on the market.

Loopback for Podcasting, Streaming, and Content Creation

The Loopback feature allows you to mix sources directly connected to the interface with audio from the computer.

It is particularly well-suited for:

multi-person podcasts

livestreams

content creation

video calls

recordings combining multiple microphones, instruments, and system audio

Combined with the four preamps and the talkback microphone, it allows you to manage productions involving multiple participants.
