The Ashdown Saint Avant’s construction features a poplar body (40 mm thick), a bolt-on neck made of torrefied maple, and a fingerboard also made of torrefied maple (set with 24 fanned stainless steel frets!). This design produces clear and dynamic acoustic tones that are rich and responsive, with precise, punchy bass, balanced mids, and crystalline highs.
Poplar is considered an alternative to alder. It is widely available and cost-effective, making it the preferred choice for entry-level and mid-range instruments.
In addition to giving the wood an elegant patina, the torrefaction process improves the instrument’s stability, sustain, clarity, and resonance, while protecting it from temperature fluctuations, humidity, and mold.

The pickup set with AlNiCo V magnets consists of a J-Bass-style pickup at the bridge and a P-Bass-style pickup at the neck. They deliver dynamic, warm, and well-defined tones.
Thanks to the individual volume and master tone controls, as well as the bridge pickup’s mix control, you’ll be able to adapt to a wide range of musical styles and settings.
