Neumann KU100

The KU 100 dummy head is a binaural stereo microphone. It looks like a human head and has two microphone capsules integrated in the ears. The stereo binaural listening gives the illusion of being in the place where took place the original sound recording, unlike other recording techniques involving a spatial dimension that only project the sound in front of the listener.

The power switch is located in the bottom of the unit, as the output connectors (balanced and unbalanced). Inside the head are additional switches to a 10 dB attenuation and high-pass filter. Microphones capsules are placed in each ear.

The audio signal is of excellent quality. When reproduced on high quality headphones, it transcribes the same sound that the listener would have received if he were on the place of the record. When played on loudspeakers, the sound is similar to the one you would have obtained using conventional stereo microphones, but with improved quality. This impression is specific to spatial depth.

The KU 100 is used in many applications, such as a measuring device for industrial environments, for acoustic research, orchestras recording while keeping the acoustics of the room, etc ... It allows to preserve and reproduce exactly the natural soundscape of the place of the record.



The electrical characteristics of the artificial head obviously contribute to such recording quality. The KU 100is is not equiped with the usual output transformers, but still has all the traditional benefits needed: high output, fast transient response, clean background noise level extremely low. The transformers are thus replaced by electronic circuits, which provide effective common mode rejection, and prevents RF interference that may influence the balanced audio signals.

The dummy head provides balanced outputs (XLR) and unbalanced (BNC connectors). It can be used both with 48 V phantom power with an external power supply, as well as batteries or integrated battery.
