1957 was a landmark year for the Les Paul Goldtop; the following year marked the introduction of the legendary trilogy of original Les Paul Standard “Burst” models from 1958, 1959, and 1960. It was replaced by the SG design in 1961. It wasn’t until 1968 that the Les Paul reappeared in its original body style.
Crafted by the artisans at Murphy Lab and inspired by the instruments in the Made To Measure line, this GIBSON Custom Shop Limited Edition LE 1957 Les Paul Reissue (LPR5726LE23267) is a splendid reinterpretation of this iconic solid body electric guitar—a must-have for enthusiasts of authentic vintage tones and feel. It stands out for its Ultra Heavy Aged Refin Burst finish and its uncovered pickups, which give it a unique look.
The construction is meticulously precise, with dimensions laser-scanned from vintage models, and components selected with uncompromising care: a glued body and set neck (using a “Long Neck Tenon” joint, “hot hide glue*”), solid mahogany body and neck, solid rosewood fingerboard, and hand-wound Alnico III Custom Buckers pickups calibrated to faithfully reproduce the warm, punchy, and nuanced tones of the P.A.F.s from that era.

Since 2014, Gibson has been using "Hot Hide Glue." It has the same characteristics as the adhesives used in the 1950s. Derived from animal proteins, it has the advantage of simplifying maintenance and any necessary repairs.
For 25 years, Tom Murphy has honed his craft to replicate the look and character of vintage guitars. Building on this expertise, Gibson collaborated with the master luthier to develop a new varnish formula that perfectly mimics the typical imperfections of 1950s and 1960s nitrocellulose lacquer, and to refine specific manufacturing techniques.
Every craftsman working at the Murphy Lab has been personally trained by Tom Murphy to become an expert in the aging process.
